(More customer reviews)We have two of these vests for our two Shelties. They are both in the 23-30lb size range and surprisingly love the water as much as any lab. We have had these vests for two summers now and they have held up very well. We live in TX and our dogs love being in the water to avoid the hot Texas Summers. The vest provides decent enough flotation, stays on securely, and seems comfortable enough. However, we have noticed that when our dogs start getting tired from a long swimming session this vest WILL NOT KEEP THEIR HEAD OUT OF THE WATER. If for some reason your dog had to swim to a great distance or was otherwise incapacitated this vest would not save their life. The dog would only last as long as they had the strength to keep their head up. We have tried adjusting the straps a million time and trying to strap it farther forward on the dog, but this doesn't work any better. I am not a hydro dynamics engineer, but I think the design just needs more flotation material around the collar area. That being said I haven't really found a better design yet, but I'm pretty sure that any true Life Jacket or PFD for human wear has to be certified by the US Coast Guard that will keep an incapacitated person's head above water and allow them to breathe until help arrives. I don't think a dog's life preserver should be any different.
