(More customer reviews)My old golden has Cushings disease. She produces too much cortisol. Besides being forever hungry and drinking mass quantities, she has little skin lesions. If untreated, these can get very itchy and then scabby. So she gets monthly medicated shampoo baths. The sulfur/coal tar shampoo type seems to work best. I experimented with many types and brands in shampoos and sprays. I have been using Bio-Groom Protein Lanolin shampoo for decades, so when I found the sulfur/coal tar type was what I wanted, I turned to Bio-Groom for a larger bottle. Bio-Groom has done it again. It' a cut above the others. Sulfur/coal tar inherently stinks a little. The Bio-Groom product does as well, but after drying, the medicated smell almost disappears. Much better than others anyway. It also leaves her hair nice and soft. It doesn't strip out the shine like most of the other medicated shampoos. It does a great job of letting her lesions heal without complication. It's almost a non-problem now. She loves people and when we are out on our walks, she attracts fans. I used to worry about them seeing a lesion, but you now have to know where to look and can't really feel them. I get lots of compliments about her being so soft and pet-able. I'll add another tip about Cushings in dogs. My daughter is a horse trainer. She says horses get Cushings also. A long known holistic horse treatment is to give cinnamon in their food. So I tried that and it does seem to help. She seems to like it unless I put too much in. Less than a teaspoon in a bowl (dry food & warm water) is best.
